Our day begins early and we set off around 8 a.m. towards Serengeti National ParkThe journey goes through several villages where we see many Christians on their way from church. As planned, we make a stop at the shopping center African Gallery for souvenirs, which surprised us with its selection and contemporary presentation. There is almost everything a tourist's heart desires, but at considerable prices. So we let ourselves be inspired by the selection, but don't buy anything here.
Shortly afterwards, Claudia has to prove her skills, as we come across a serious traffic accident. A semi-trailer with a container has obviously gone out of control on a bend and overturned into a ditch. Claudia is able to help three seriously injured people, but unfortunately help comes too late for the driver. We continue on in a somewhat depressed mood and come to a local market, where we are able to buy our souvenirs much cheaper after a lot of haggling.
We drive quickly over the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti National Park, where we eat our packed lunch at the entrance. Then our first game drive begins in this "endless plain", as the Maasai name Serengeti translates. After our experiences in Namibia and Botswana, where we had a lot of luck, we approach the drive with an open mind, which begins rather unspectacularly with a couple of antelopes and ostriches.
Later, events unfold rapidly and we see a large herd of elephants, several lions, cheetahs and even two leopards. The absolute highlight we see by chance just outside our camp: a pack of 6 lionesses prepare to hunt a warthog and kill their prey right in front of our eyes.
Impressed by these observations, we arrive at our tent camp later than expected, where we encounter bats and hyenas over dinner. A truly exciting day comes to an end.
